Hi, y'all;
I was reading AOL which had an article on Pets taking it hard with foreclosures and home losses. Apparently, many people are embarrassed about losing their homes and feel that depositing their pets at shelters is too embarrassing. So, they leave them in the back yard or in the home, unattended and with or without food and water. The organization Pets of Forelosures is in need of fosters, forevers and food. They need money. If you work for a real estate firm, be aware that the sellers may be leaving animals to fend for themselves. It is heart breaking.
The weather is truly oppressive. Use Pedia-lite to add to doggie's water. It replaces electro-lites in the blood and keeps them very hydrated. I am sounding like a lecturer. Gotta stop that.
I saw that there is a new dog/pet store at the Costco Plaza on Clybourn. It is called Planet Pooch. I went in curious to see what was what. It is a (how do you spell she-she??). It is an over priced pet store with couches so watch the little pocket pups and appeal to the narcissistic nerds who would pay $1,800 to buy a Malti-poo rather than use that amount to save 36 dogs from euthanasia. So, being from NY, I had to say something. First I looked like a potential interested buyer. I then asked where the dogs came from. They said they all had proof of non-puppy mill status of the dogs. They called them breeders, but breeders adhere to AKC rules.
I then asked the price of these critter, cute as they are. I was told that they range from $1,200 to $1,800 per pup. They were remarkably cute dogs, but when so many are suffering, it is hard to watch. So, being from NY I had to say something. I said, "this is an obscenity. These animals are being sold as a cash crop and this money could be used to save so many, many lovely dogs in need of homes. Further more that the shop owners were contributing to the suffering of many animals." They must have heard something like this before because they said nothing and just pretended that I wasn't there. Clearly, this was not the first time they had heard this. If you feel that like it, stop in an mention that this store should be out of business and they are contributing to the suffering of animals.
The "Dog Days" have not even hit and summer, while wonderful here, seems to be looming and hanging in the air. Perhaps, that is the humidity. I watch the TV dog rescue shows and wish I could take all of them. I donate to shelters, because if I volunteered, I would be the lady with 10 dogs (no cats, please..not to offend anyone of the cat proclivity).
Sting at Ravinia was wow. Enjoying the out of doors, but my dog is not. She is sluggish with the heat. So, do be careful with them. Aengus and Ollie's human suggested carrying two sets of car keys. If you have to run into the store for 5 minutes with pup in the car, lock the doors, keep the windows up and keep the car and AC running. But, only for 5 minutes.
In the next life, I think I am going to be a vet. They get to save wonderful pets, but they have to deal with people...hmmm.
And, the good news, if you watch HGTV /design star...Nina got eliminated. Yeah. Anyway, I am going to donate some food to a dog shelter. They are swamped and under funded. Think about doing something similar.
Haven't heard any dog park drama. Hope some appears soon. But, then I have to get to dog park to observe it. I re-read some previous posts...I never re-read them. I have made numerous grammatical errors and deleted words. But, I hope that you get the gist of things.
I think that most dog devotees often do not have children. Anyway, the heat is supposed to abate. That would be wonderful for all. I need to get to dog park to get my therapy and to find out what is happening in the dog-o-rama drama and human saga.
That's all she wrote. Roe
