Howdy, Dog Packies;
Well, a long holiday weekend in town means easy parking, no lines for restaurants and movies and an uncrowded dog park.
So, have you heard the one about three gamecocks sitting in the shade? Well, you are going to hear it now. No one wore their "Cocks" baseball caps, or tee shirts for that matter. But, today, quite by accident, there were in fact, three Gamecocks sitting in the shade. What is a Gamecock, you ask? It is the mascot for the University of South Carolina...the REAL and ONLY Carolina.
Not only were Dave and Laura alum, they were married there. This relevant because in many years in this city, until about 3 weeks ago, I had never met a Gamecock. I met Hal, the human for Bocefio and his Havanese brother, Hal is also a Gamecock. So, in x many years in Chicago, I have finally met a bunch of Cocks, as they are called. Now when I first went to that university, I had only heard that word in relation to dirty jokes. But in Carolina, in context it is just a nickname for the mascot: Cocky. It is all a matter of context. USC aka, U of Suit Case, because every weekend is a party away somewhere. Occasionally, I meet someone at dog park who has gone to U of Southern California. They claim, also, to be USC. I point out that we are not only the first USC (founded in 1801, yes that is correct, 1801) and that they are not only not the first, they are the non real USC. Occasionally I see someone wearing a blue Carolina tee shirt...(U of North Carolina) another not real Carolina. So, what happens when three Gamecocks are sitting in the shade??? Lots of happy memories and shared cultural amusements. By the way, their dog is a King Charles Cavalier named Winston Churchill. They, too , like history. Oh yes, and be sure to ask about PJ and Shag, James Brown and the War of Yankee Aggression.
I went to Hamlin Park last night, I met people who were very nice and said they did not like Wiggly because it was filled with people who are too full of themselves. I explained that there is a deeply devoted and disturbed following at Wiggly and that we, too, are not thrilled with the non-poop picker uppers and yups, too. I invited them. I met a Lime Tree Bloodhound from Chicago Canine rescue whose name was Cody #3. His human, Gino owns the dog friendly bar called Cody at the intersection of Barry and Paulina. They welcome us. A Lime Treee Bloodhound has longer ears, a lower body and a sweet disposition. This pure bred boy came from the aforementioned rescue in Chicago. He was playing with Jordan, Izzy, Guiness and Deliloh. Deliloh is a golden chow mix from rescue. He was initially named Delilah, but upon closer inspection,
this cute girl dog was sporting a johnson, also known as, "fully packaged." Hmmm. So, Delilah became Deliloh. Whatever his/her preference this dog is a keeper. In fact, they have rescued three...constant three dog night.
Hope to see you all tomorrow.
That's all she wrote. Roe
