Hello, Y'all;
Last week end was a yearly special event...that's right...Otis's annual (I guess birthdays are annual) birthday bash. This guy had it all: Humans, dogs: Chimmy, Ollie, Aengus, BoBo,
a BoBo look alike, with a notable absence of Floyd and Mojo. The doggies, actually, behaved quite well, given that at one time there were 11 dogs in a Chicago backyard. There was one second (quite literally) of dog anxiety/stress. But, then it immediately evaporated like the perspiration clinging to one's brow on a summer breeze...gone with the breeze.
The little town I grew up in had a local newspaper that reported local social events, such as:
"Mrs. Smith had her cousin Mary to lunch. They ate chicken". This is true. A more modern and eco-friendly, dog-friendly version of this would be: " Otis celebrated his birthday with his annual birthday bash. They ate homemade pulled pork". Actually, that sentence was ambiguous. The humans ate pulled pork, pulled by Otis' Dad. Otis' humana (mom) was a gracious hostess and a good time was had by all. Joe and Mia are swell folks... yup! Jordan had a great time, as did all of the beautiful well behaved dog-a-licous pups.
Dog Du Jour: Today a little English Bull Dog pup, aged 11 weeks made his debut at dp. This little darling with a white spot on his head, like a slot machine, is named, Jackpot. Because his humans had hit the jackpot with him. Ollie and Aengus's human pointed out that Bulldogs all seem to have a button of white color or black color on the top of their heads. Like a slot machine, you just push the button and get a jackpot. Clever. If only it worked.
I had an idea that I thought was cool in these times of economic stress. Use dp to network and to support each other's business and/or job hunt. Why not network when ever, where ever. Bring your business cards to dp and hand them out. Perhaps, a friend of a friend , might be of help. If you don't put it out there, the Universe (I call that God) cannot respond.
The cooler weather has been pleasant. On a long, holiday weekend, I was surprised to see how many of the usual humans and their packies, showed up. Usually, I think that people are up, up and away. Oh, no; that's what happened to airfares...up, up and away. Stay-cations work and when you can come to dp and see people and pups that make you feel at home and on a vacation, simultaneously.
I realize how much this park has become a part of my life. I have developed connections that I feel are very important to me personally, and to my doggie. When we go there at times when unfamiliar dogs are there, my pup wanders around, somewhat aimlessly. When she sees a pack that she knows, she just hangs near them. Amazing, well actually, not amazing, that they know each other. OMG, they know each other's smells and doggie emails(urine). I like to think that they understand the sense of community that they bring.
Moving right along, I thought people were making it up when they said they had commented on this blog. Yes, computer challenged is the operative concept. I tripped over some comments while attempting to upload dog photos. I found and read comments and was unable to upload dog photos. Another computer lesson at dp is in the offing.
The end of Labor Day weekend brings a bit of dread for me. I refuse to put away my white clothing as used to be traditional. My mom told me that people who wore white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day were bound to eternal damnation. Thank God that the rules have changed. Now we can wear white all year long while the yuppies rob us blind with their smiles in tact.
I think a certain kind of person hangs at dp. The yups come to show off their emotional extensions. But, the people who come regularly tend to be down home, no bull type folks who tell it like it is...well, most of the time. With John and Gary, one cannot tell if they are being droll and pulling your legs, arms and hair. If not, one gets offended and does not return...ie, if they are not down to earth. Many political points of view are discussed and nary a real verbal altercation, at least about politics, have evolved. I realized that when I will not be a dp for a day or two, I feel a bit deprived of connections. How about you all? Just a thought.
That's all she wrote. Roe
