TAIL OF TWO IZZIES

Hello,

Today was filled with Isabelles...and one Isabella. All of these white or light cuties are in bull family. White Isabelle (Joseph's dog) is an American Bull Terrier. His mom human used to breed and show sharpei dogs. The things you find out. She says she likes the more aggressive breeds and when asked if that matched her personality, she agreed. Another Isabelle is a light sweet French Bull dog pup of 7 months. Even for seven months, she is quite petite. She runs like a rabbit: ears bouncing in the breeze. Watching her run form behind she seems to wiggle run. Quite cute. While I was driving to my office after dp, I saw two French Bull dog siblings: Francesca (black) and Isabella (white) dog siblings from the same litter. So, it is a "Tail of two Izzies", or "Three bull dog night"?

A dog name discussion which took place in the shade bench on the south side of the park sparked some light bulbs to go off in my brain. John states that the park: sun v shade was a two city thing. Dog names of interest led to a discussion of ludicrous names for children. La Brittany seemed to take the cake of an unusal name of foolishness....at least for today.

After the sun had retreated from part of the north end of dp bench, many of the usual suspects convened around the pool, interestingly, as did the dog for each human. Aengus (with an "E") was a bit of a barker today because he was not always getting the famous rubber ball, as he was wanted, and usually did, have. Another Angus showed up...I think it was a big Swiss mountain boy who currently weighs about 100 and is in late puppyhood. He looks a bit like a hereford cow...or perhaps, a Guernsy cow. I come from Upstate NY, people do not realize that the second largest industry in NY is dairy farming. Therefore, a farmer might say of a girl "chick" that she was a "sweet little heffer". So, Angus (no "E) was compared to a cow...and a sweet heffer at that.

A big English Bull dog named....can't remember, showed up at the end of the afternoon. His human was a wimpy and unauthoritative dog alpha. She freely and without awareness admitted that she had not given her dog obedience training. Since her dog was jumping up on people and a bit out of control, or as one person said, "that dog does not have good manners". That was polite.

I am thinking about what I want to say in the blog and what is the purpose, the narrative and the arc and conflict resolution. What is the conflict? The dp microcosm, like any cosm has conflict to resolve. Conflict can be measured in character and character can drive the actions and clarify the conflict. There are archtypes: tomboys, cheerleaders, people dedicated to an well trained in the training of animals and the neophytes who do not know that they do not know. There in lies many conflicts. The same might be said for the dogs. Yet, the dogs seem to handle the conflict and get over it. Why can't we?

Dog Park Du Jour..Kahlua and Cream

Hello,

Kahlua and Cream...add a shot of vodka and that is a White Russian... WR was the favorite drink of the official Dude, El Duderino, His Dudeness, The Duder...whatever. I think The Dude's attitude is alive and well and dp. I think the Dude would fit in just swell. Wouldn't it be great to name a dog, "Dude". Everytime you called his name many heads would turn. Just a thought.

Kahlua is the spitting image of BoBo. BoBo and Kahlua were hanging at the pool in dp today. Kahlua, another pretty husky, was having his way with Murphy the Golden today. There was a fair amount of barking and Angus, of course, would not give up the toy.

I've heard that a friend of a friend of one of the Humans made a pass at 4:30 AM last Saturday morning. Well, he was in for a surprise because the lady, or lady of the night, or in this case the man/woman of the night; The lady in question was a question of a lady??? The dude was shocked and freaked out. But, when you hit on a lady at 4:30 in the morning on a Chicago street, WTF do you expect? Moral of the story is you can't judge a book by its cover, these days, anyway.

There was another doggie today who I promised to write about. My mind is getting like a sieve because I recall wanting to write about this special pooch, and cannot think of any of it. But the dog in question was a rescue from Paws. Cute little thing that I cannot pull up to my mind's eye. I am having writer's block or at least momentary pup block. It will come back to me.

The recession is slogging on, but people are dealing with it. I have heard of dog walking Census Takers. I have heard of Traders' Gone Wild tapes...(do they still make tapes???)

Word has it from Bill, Human to Liza (say Lie-zah) informed us that the park expansion is under
at the hands of an architect. It will take probably at least through the summer. But, since this is a beauracratic thing, who knows.

Back to Bill and Liza (Lie-zah) could be an interspecies Henry Higgins and Liza Doolittle. Liza is an Airdale cutie of about 4 years old. She is a bit of a princess and is in need, I am told, of a good hair conditioner due to an unfortunate case of split ends. I have heard that split ends is sufficient reason to break up with a girl. This from the perenniel bachelor...for whom anyone with a condition more serious than a hang nail, is sufficient to run from. Ah....to be single again. Or at least on the market.

I am told, also, that some people who live in Lincoln Park find that anything further than a short cab ride is a geographically challenged person. I think our society has gotten rather elite. I am always amazed when I am at the airport and someone is complaining about being delayed an hour. I think...wow, let's try this in a Canestoga Wagon. I once sat next to a man on a flight to or from somewhere told me about his grandmother. His family was in Portland, Oregon. His grandmother had arrived in Oregon over the Oregon Trail and in 1887. She lived long enough to take a jet (707) from Portland to NYC in a 6 hour flight. Her trip over the Oregon Trail took 9 months. So, when you feel like complaining...get a grip.

DAILY SQUEE...A FUN WEB SITE FOR DOGS

Hi Y'all.

I was surfing tonight and found a fun site: www.dailysquee.com

This site is about animals...but they put cats first. But, fortunately, there is a tab for dogs. I thought I would never get through the viral cat dander. Jordan breathed a sigh of relief, too.
No asthma for me tonight.

So, today at dog park was rather uneventful. It was kind of cool weather wise that is. I did see the human for Mack and Lizzie from a distance. It was nice to be noticed. I stood outside of the fence because I was wearing office clothing.

I have a recommendation for Fabreeze, Pet Odor control.... it is really good stuff!
My car had suffered the fate of too much of my dog in the back seat. It now no longer smells like a barn. This is good. My dog agrees too.

So, what else is new? Since I have started this blog, I have noticed that people do not speak as openly to me. I promise not to give anyone a hard time....so, feel free, or not...whatever.

So, I am heading off to walk the pup for the last time tonight.

GIADA, BAUER, FINDLAY AND GOOSE'S SECRET

Hello,

It was a bit rainy this afternoon at dp. But, there were a fair amount of frolicking going on in the puppy-land. The three pups: Bauer, a sweet, if precocious 5 month old Black Lab pup was giving Findlay, the 7 month old Golden, a real hard time. It seems that Bauer knows how to go for the dangling ear and other points of sensitivity. Findlay laid down and submitted to the feisty little lab-boy. Bauer is a replica of Burly (no "e") who is Goose' brother. Goose's secret...well, did you know what the secret is? Well, it is "How Goose Lost His Manhood, or How Oprah Wields Her Knife". We have it on reliable information that Oprah can be a bit of a "b" word. I have heard this from numerous sources.

Goose who can be a naughty boy was on good behavior today. His human was pleased and he was ever interesting to watch. Goose is from English Lab stock. That means he is lower to the ground and built sturdy. The other English Lab at dp these days is Frank. Aka, Frank the tank, there is too, a Tank to thank not spank.

Giada, a pretty Yellow Lab pup of 5 months, had a run in the something at her doggie day care which put her out of commission for awhile. But this pretty faced sweet thing is bouncing back and now having a great time with the others in the pack. Giada got her name from Giada Di Laurentis, the TV chef. Giada's humans are quite addicted to that show. Me, I preferr Molto Mario., but I could be wrong.

I was noticing how the "regulars' (both Humans and Canines) watch over other peoples' dogs and pet them all. Feels like we are at a suburban soccer game with dogs instead of 11 year old kids.

You often see dp virgins....one recently told me that she had bought her dog at a breeder at age three weeks. No that is not a typo. Her explanation was that the mother had a litter of ten, I think pit mixes, and the mother rejected the pups. The "breeder" then had to get rid of the pups. The human told me that her pup was the last to find a home....at age three weeks. Wow. But, she is a sweet dog and her human fed her with baby formula. Dedication. Too bad the "breeder" wasn't as dedicated, though they did find homes for the pups, albeit, way too early.

Remember that tomorrow, June 14th is Flag Day.

NOT HOT TOWN SUMMER IN THE CITY

But, Hawks fans would definitely disagree. Congrats, Hawks!

Today the dp was populated by some of the usual suspects, both Humans and dogs. Otis, Murphy, Taylor, Leila, Mochi, Chimmy, Ollie, Angus and Jordan were bounding around. We haven't seen much of Taylor lately, but he did make an appearance and sometimes a ruckus, but it was all in good fun. Today, as usual, Leila, aka, the Artful Dodger, ran like the wind and had everyone chasing her. It is so surprising that she runs like a fox but with her big butterfly, Papillon ears, flapping in the breeze. She was a tad nonplussed when a real Papillon showed up. She had never met one before and seemed a bit puzzled. Hmmm.

There was discussion among the humans about creating some kind of bench above the bench, from the best I could discern. It was interesting. Some ding bat keeps wearing white to dog park stating have you not heard of Oyx-Clean? Duh. It takes all kinds.

Bam-Bam was there last night for awhile...like two hours of being swung around by the rubber rings...not by the anatomy. Bam's human has been known to heal dogs with arithritis with his dog massage. Another burgeoning profession in the making. The recession is the spawn of many great ideas.

It occured to this writer that Jordan is a part of the pack. Jordan, a beloved Border Collie/Mix, just doesn't play with the other kids. She just wanders around trying to snitch a bouncing colored ball from someone. Usually she likes the blue one that belongs to Angus. When her human brings her own ball to play with, she won't play with it. But then, again, she gets to bark at the other dogs. But, she is part of the pack nonetheless.

Today Otis and BoBo were in top form play biting each others' neck fur. Otis' human was instigating this with great elan. Need to get the pups to exercize. The pool, thanks to Cheryl, continues to be a source of great enjoyment and occasional pee for the pups.

A new pup showed up from a rescue from NC. A cute, omni-present sheperd mystery mix...sweet thing that she a cuddle bunny. We lovers of dogs...many unmarried or without children or empty-nesters....it is an odd lot of us to be sure.

On that note... I will end for this evening because that is all she wrote. Roe

HISTORY, DP AND LIFE

Hello,

History: The name of Laika, see last post, is relevant because the first dog in space was a Russian dog named Laika. Say that with a White Russian in one hand and a dude in the other...get it????

I read an interesting article about how our human relationships would improve if we treated our partners like we treat our dogs. Think about it. When your pup does something wrong, you quickly and firmly reprimand the sweet things, then, immediately forgive them. Quick to forgive. We do not project our wishes, needs and fears onto our dogs. At least, we shouldn't. So, just be quick to forgive and forget.

I find it most intersting that in the past 6 weeks, I have heard not anyone say one word about the ecological problems. DP is sanity for the city humans and dogs. Dog Therapy is good at dog park and is used in hospitals and such. Dogs heal. I know my patients are getting better when they adopt a dog. Do our dogs think about us? Do they know if we need to lose weight or gain weight or have wrinkles and things. No, Hell. NO. Isn't that nice in a world as one human at dp said over the weekend, that they thought most people are not good in this world. Another human responded by saying that was a "pretty synical" outlook. I, for one think most people are just people who do the best they can. There was a human at dog park today who is someone who does not have a dog, but I think he, also, does not have a human. He may have been a bit sloshed, I am not sure. But he was relatively harmless. I found him a bit annoying. I was ashamed of myself when as he left, one human, who I previously did not care for, was very kind and supportive to this person. So, never judge even note pad by its cover...either the "displeasing" individual or the other person whom I had formerly considered and "displeasing' individual. Live and learn. Be patient with the dull and ignorant, for they too, have a story.

LAIKA, BOCEFIO AND OTIS'S AMORE

Hi Folks,

Well, here we are into June. Despite my comments that I thought new puppy season had drawn to a close, today we met Laika. She is a 4 month old, gorgeous chocolate brown Portugese Water dog pup. What a cuddly cutie she is. She came from a breeder down in Southern Illinois somewhere and was the runt of the litter and the only brown dog in it. She was born the same day that her human's previous Porty went to the Rainbow Bridge. It was kharma: things are meant, there are signs, the heart knows, there is a way. Actually, that last part is a prayer either created by or passed on by a Catholic priest at Notre Dame. Laika's interesting name is of historical nature. Do you know where it came from? At the end of today's blog I will post the
origin of the name. Laika has a brother named Bocefio (the spelling is almost beyond me). Bo is a Havanese 9 year old boy who was rescued from ...I can't remember where. But a rescue nonetheless. And the origin of the name Bocefio??? Bocefio is the South is a synonym for stupid or flaky or something like that. Bo's human told us that today.

Otis has a new amore who wanted to do PDA at dog park. Well, Otis being a very discreet Golden Retriever boy who is splendidly blonde with white-ish hair of pantolunes and very long and sexy chest hair. All things being equal is that Otis displayed great judgement. Besides which he was just having too much fun with the other dogs to be bothered with humans. Smart dog.

Letting go is a splendid thing to do in life....they tell us when we are children:

"Roe, Roe, Roe your boat (they named it after me), gently down the stream (not onerously up the stream), merrily, merrily, merrily (it is just an illusion, anyway), life is but a dream. So and expression I first learned and leaned on when I moved to the Midwest: "Not to worry".

HOT TOWN-SUMMER IN THE CITY..LADY GAGA

Hi to everyone,

Actually, a few days ago it was hot town, summer in the city. Today...not. Therapy for people and dogs. I met a special dog named Lady GaGa...after, you know who. Lady is sweet pup from St. Louis. Her humans just moved here about one week ago. It was her first time at dp. She is a white mystery dog. She was rescued from StrayRescue.org Stray Rescue started 12 years ago in St. Louis by a man who scoured the poor neighborhoods looking for strays to rescue. In 12 years they have rescued 20,000 dogs who were stray. In that time, only 10 dogs were not treatable or placeable. Pretty amazing. There is a documentary being filmed about th dude who did it. I will look forward to seeing that one. The power of one...

I was reminded today that dp has many facets. Someone came to dp today with an upset heart and found comfort from the usuals. How nice that people of dp have created a little town in the big city..in some ways it feels like a a community of people who also happen to love the doggies. This is good for dogs and good for the humans, too.

The power of one multiplied by many creates one community of mutual support and sometimes conflict. It is like going to the hair dressers. When you go to the hair dresser, you just open up and talk like to a shrink. Dog park shrinks and expands, as well.

The pool is a big hit these days. When Jordan, my border collie/ mix first saw the pools she did not like it. I had to bribe her to get in with treats. Now she makes a victory lap through the pool every time she runs and fetches a ball. Would that life were as simple for the humans of dp and life in general.

I have noticed many new people and dogs. Puppy season seems to have come to a close with many new additions to the dp pack. Always when a pup arrives, everyone has to hold it and oodle about it. I guess we all love babies.

Writing a blog is interesting to me...and I hope it is to you all as well. Free association is a wonderous tool. I just let my mind wander and see what comes out on the computer screen. It flows nicely and give pleasure.

The human for Ollie and Angus was present today. Where was the human for Promise? Has anyone seen her of late? Gary, Flo and Mo were present as were Lizzie and Mack.. (Mack occasionally makes a command performance...and today was one of the days).

I hear a rumor that a de-panting brigage is forming to help Gary get a more thorough suntan.
